Freeze Damage is BIG BUSINESS in Colorado
Most Sprinkler Service companies enjoy the annual Spring Start-up season because there is always lots of freeze damage that occurred over the winter on many systems. Unfortunately most of them are not interested in providing a solution to this common problem, but rather keep replacing cracked ball valves and other components with the same old materials that will get damaged again. If you don't believe me, call around for yourself and ask if they have any guaranteed solutions to prevent the same thing from happening over and over. Most will tell you that freeze damage is a maintenance issue. That means that you need to maintain your system properly and have it winterized BEFORE it freezes, or some similar narrative.
I, (owner of Complete Sprinkler Services), developed a simple solution to prevent the brass ball valve from cracking. I made one that has a simple Freeze Plug in the side so that now the Freeze Plug will crack and not the valve. Do you think I can find an honest Sprinkler Repair company to offer this product to their customers? No... After many trade shows and having the product in local irrigation supply houses I have not found one contractor who cares enough about their customers to put the customers interest above their own self serving interest in making profits from the customers misfortune. I call it the G & C factor. GREED & CORRUPTION.
DIY'S can find the Freeze Tolerant Ball Valve at several local Ace Hardware stores around the Denver Metro area as well as buy them on line here. You can use coupon code QC20 for a 20% discount.
Over the last 10 years with over 80,000 valves installed throughout the United States and Canada in many different industries such as mining, construction, power plants, mobile Ready-Mix concrete trucks etc etc, not 1 freeze plug has failed to do its job.
Here at Complete Sprinkler Services, we do offer our customers a couple options of better freeze protection. One is to replace your cracked ball valves with the Freeze Tolerant style. The other is to offer our Freeze-Protection Plan that includes added insulation, and a better drain set up to prevent a leaking supply valve from putting water back into your system over the winter. With this plan, we offer 100% protection from any freeze damage to your above ground pipes. If you do have any freeze damage, we cover it 100%.
